Freedom of the Seas

Warning really long travel log...not going to even give a recount of the week...just pictures and a few facts:
  1. I have the coolest, most fun, adventurous hubby in the world.  16 years has only reinforced...that we still wink across the room, laugh, hold hands everywhere we go, argue about driving skills,  feel sad when we are not on the same page but always quickly remember our hearts are one, and we dream together!
  2. It is magical to sleep on the balcony while sailing.  There are a million stars, no city lights and the waves are the only sound.
  3. Islands made out of coral reef, that lack fresh water and natural resources, can create an impoverish country, desperation and people that have no ability or drive to be self-sufficient.
  4. I don't want to live in Haiti or Jamaica or Mexico but a vacation home in the Grand Cayman would be quite alright...along seven mile beach.
  5. Don't pay someone under the table for a driving tour of Haiti.  You might not get back to your boat and you might be crushed with the weight of a heavy compassionate heart that lingers for days.
  6. If your husband sleeps more than you, go explore the cruise ship alone, listen to the live music, watch the evening movie at pool side, make friends with the housekeepers and learn all about their family and country,  check out the night club while it is closed and abandoned, hit the gym or run the top deck track, avoid hot tubs full of single people, stay away from the all you can eat buffet and casino, and last but not least don't go to the 18 and older comedy night even for a minute.
  7.  Jamaica's Green Grotto Caves are spooky and bats fly around your face but the history is intriguing: The island’s first inhabitants, the Taino people, are thought to have used the caves for shelter, and many artifacts found at the site appear to substantiate this idea. Historians also believe that the Spanish sought protection in the caves when they battled the British for control of the island in 1655. The Green Grotto Caves provided a perfect hideaway for runaway slaves, as well as for the smugglers who ran arms to Cuba. More recently, the caves were utilized as a place to store rum, and they were used as the backdrop for the submarine scene in the James Bond thriller, Live and Let Die. During their long history, the caves have been called by many names: Runaway Caves, Dairy Caves, Rum Caves, Hopewell Caves, and Dry Harbor Caves.
  8. Don't stick your fingers in the mouth of a Sting Ray to feed it fish.  It doesn't tickle as the guide says, it hurts.
  9. Snorkeling the Cayman island corral reefs are better then Hawaii but the corral stings and abrasions can go through a swimsuit and scar your tummy.
  10. Warning: Sailing through the middle of tropical storm Isaac will rock the boat and a person could fly off the deck in 70 mph winds, so you will probably spend the last two days of your cruise in the dark wondering who should feed the dog if you don't make it home in one piece.
  11. Oh yeah...the Denver Colorado airport has not 1 but 2 Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factories and the milk chocolate sea foam is the BEST!!!!
